Setting the Pace: Leadership in Digital Transformation Through Goal Setting

Leadership in Digital Transformation

Back in January 2025, we sat down as a team and did something that sounds simple on paper but takes real work to get right: we set our targets for the year. For me, this was more than just a planning session. It was an exercise in Leadership in Digital Transformation—breaking down big goals into smaller, achievable actions that keep us aligned and focused.

I led the planning, but I didn’t do it alone. Collaborating with the team was key. We needed to understand what we were capable of, where we needed support, and how we could balance our priorities without losing sight of our LGU’s bigger vision—the one our city mayor entrusted us to pursue.

Why Setting KPIs Matters

During our session, we laid out key performance indicators (KPIs) that gave structure to our work. These KPIs help us track our progress and pinpoint early where things might fall short. More importantly, they help guide decision-making: what gets funded, what gets prioritized, and what gets adjusted.

For a team involved in tech and innovation, Leadership in Digital Transformation also means staying flexible. Things move fast. But having clearly defined goals gives us a stable ground to return to when things get messy.

Goals That Align With People and Purpose

Target setting isn’t just about metrics. It’s about aligning our goals with our actual capacity, and making sure every move we make supports the vision of a more efficient, responsive local government.

That’s what Leadership in Digital Transformation looks like for me. It’s strategic, collaborative, and always tied back to service.

Looking Ahead

This session may have only lasted a day, but the clarity it gave us will last the rest of the year. If you’re leading a team and navigating change, don’t overlook the power of intentional planning.
